How to Certify?

To embed a family friendly workplace culture, employers need to review and evaluate their approach to

  • Organisation policies and practices supporting family, career and wellbeing needs of employees
  • HR measuring the utilisation and effectiveness of family, career and wellbeing policies and practices
  • Managers supporting the intent of policies and practices and by implementing them effectively
  • Employees being provided with the tools and empowerment to combine their work and family life commitments
There are three simple steps to achieving Family Friendly Workplace certification:

1

Complete
Survey

We work with you to ensure you have the key Family Friendly policies and practices in place as benchmarked against the National Work + Family standards and criteria. This involves completing an online survey to evaluate your current positioning, as well as the opportunity to complete an employee survey or focus group to receive in-depth data on your people’s experience.

2

Receive
Report

We produce a report for you to review with a specialist Family Friendly Workplace assessor on the effectiveness of current policies and practices based on the benchmark performance. A report will be provided with a key set of recommendations along with a toolkit and next steps plan.

3

Action
Plan

Your organisation will determine the areas it would like to focus on through an endorsed work & family action plan so you can be certified as a family-inclusive employer.

We provide you with a Family Friendly Workplace Employer Pack including the certification. Lastly, we work with you to start promoting the great work your organisation is doing!

About the Certification Levels & Associated Standards

  • A recognition framework enables organisations to be awarded either a Family Inclusive Workplace Certification or at the next level, as an Employer of Choice for Families.

  • Employers are asked to complete a survey against certification criteria. Within the survey, questions are distinguished between Family Inclusive Workplace Certification and Employer of Choice for Families standards.

  • The Family Inclusive Workplace certification recognises an employer that has achieved the National Work + Family Standards certification criteria and is working towards achievement of additional standards to enable a family friendly workplace culture.

  • The Employer of Choice for Families recognises employers exceeding certification expectations and championing best practice achievement of the National Work + Family Standards.

  • Employers awarded this recognition are considered leaders within industry, providing mentorship and inspiration to others to invest in a Family Friendly Workplace culture.

  • The Family Inclusive Workplace Certification launches May 2021, with the Employer of Choice for Families to be offered in 2022. National Work + Family Standards for small business will be released in 2022.

Frequently asked questions

Can my workplace apply to be certified if it is a small business with less than 100 employees or has less than a $2m turnover?

The Family Inclusive Certification for SME’s is currently being developed, ready to be released in 2022. If you register today, your details will be saved and we will notify you once the certification is open to small business applicants.

Does my workplace have to meet all of the National Work + Family Standards to express interest in being certified?

No. The standards are built upon specific criteria which together, form each guiding standard. Within these criteria, minimum requirements have been identified and these would need to be met to be certified. We work with you to identify your organisation’s readiness to be certified and provide guidance on what your workplace can do to work towards being a family friendly workplace.

Is there a cost to be certified?

Yes. There are different pathways to certification and dependant on your organisation’s progress and size, certification fees range from $3000-$7500 AUD.  Please contact us or submit an expression of interest to assess your organisation’s readiness for certification.

Once certified, how long does the certification recognition last for?

Once certified, your organisation will receive a recognition badge. Your certification will remain valid for 24 months, however, after 12 months you will be asked to submit an update and show progress on your work + family action plan in order to maintain the certification for another 12 months. Fees for certification are paid annually.

The certification process involves completing an online employer survey, how much time might that take to complete?

The average time to complete the survey is 60 minutes.  We advise that a relevant People and Culture / HR Lead with access to the organisation’s HR policies and practices is the best person to complete the survey.  As part of the survey, we will ask you to share employee stories and examples of your policies in action.

How will our organisation’s certification results be evaluated and reported back to us? Will they be shared publicly?

The survey results will be assessed by one of our senior consultants, using standardised tools for evaluation. The results will be tabled in a report, and the consultant who assessed your survey will debrief with you and discuss each categories strengths and areas for improvement, connecting you with industry professionals and resources. No individual data will be publicised.

Will we receive a certification badge that we can display internally and externally to promote that our organisation is family friendly?

Yes! Upon certification you will be provided with a badge and brand guidelines for internal and external use so that you can share the achievement with your people and inspire other organisations to follow your lead in being a family inclusive workplace.

Can I be supported to develop a work and family action plan for my organisation as part of the certification process?

Yes, we see this as a partnership with your organisation. You will be supported to create an Action Plan, and to access the advice, services and products you may seek to implement to support your Action Plan.
